Actually, the complete quote is:
“It seems like some of us Republicans are taking our conservative message, mixing it with personal prejudices and racist views, and calling it patriotism,” says McAllister. “You can cover cyanide with chocolate, but you still can’t call it candy.”
It came from an article on the Daily Beast by John Avlon.
It is a rather depressing and angering read, but also it is nice to see that there was a pretty swift response from other young Republicans expressing shock and dismay as such racism. All to often, it is easy to paint people with whom you disagree with a singular brush. It was nice to see a swift condemnation from people-even if it took hours for Shay to condemn the remarks on her Facebook page (but she was quick to de-friend the people who challenged the racism-go figure).
