So…the New York Times rejected the McCain Op Ed response to Barack Obama’s editorial.
My initial response was, after reading the op ed, I did not totally blame them. I mean, the biggest difference between the Obama op ed piece and the McCain one is that Obama’s is about what he plans to do if elected, while McCain’s is all about how Obama and his plan kind of suck. Okay, I exaggerate, but both editorials are about Obama. And I would rather see McCain put forth an argument for why his plan will work…not just why Obama’s plan won’t.
However, all that said? While I don’t blame them for feeling it was not that great of an op ed piece? They should have ran it. I mean, let McCain hang himself. That’s what you do with an op ed. They are the writer’s opinion. Let em speak their mind.

I’m an Obama supporter, but I believe the NYT did the wrong thing by rejecting McCain’s piece. Who wins the presidency will have an impact on our entire nation, and therefore the news media can’t apply the same policies to them that they apply to “just plain folk.”
It would be different if McCain had submitted his op-ed piece first. But the NYT gave Obama a platform first, and out of a commitment to journalistic fairness they owe McCain the same.
