Yes, Marvel and DC…I know the press releases look so much cooler when you can say you have hot wrters from TV or novels…Dwayne McDuffie is taking over JLA?  DC, you just totally made a sale.  Who is Mr. McDuffie?  If you have to ask, you probably are pretty knew to comics.  But Dwayne has, among other things proven time and time again to be a smart and clever writer.  He’s also able to balance tricky topics with super-heroics (as readers of his Milestone works can attest to.

Seriously, follow the link to his website.  To date, i think McDuffie had one of the best takes on Robocop (you can see the pitch on his website) and it bums me out that Marvel rejected his pitch.  He also made more than one attempt to get a new Luke Cage series off the ground, constantly rejected-eventually being told “they’re never going to let you write that character, they don’t like your attitude and they don’t want all that black stuff in there.”   Apparently it was okay for Bendis though.  Not a slight against Bendis, I like the guy.  And  am not trying to slam all novelists who are starting to enter comics.  I think folks like Brubaker and Pierce have shown a talent for comics.  But there are people who have been writing comics for a living for years that should not be overlooked.

Seriously though, McDuffie?  Excellent writer.  Check him out.

See…at least one writer gets the potential of Minnesota as a location for a story.  I wonder if I will be able to see my apartment?

So, while one door closes (Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man) for Peter David, another opens (She-Hulk).  It’s interesting that he made a comparison to Wonder Woman as far as She-Hulk’s potential.  I am intrigued.
