I could not sleep this morning. So I turned on the TV. I watched a couple episodes of a show on MTV called Exposed. This reminded me why I am not a big watcher of MTV. Seriously…it’s a dating show for obnoxious but pretty people to find soul mates or one night stands or whatever.
The basic formula is…a guy or girl will have a date with two other guys or girls (depending on their gender preference). While they talk to the prospective significant others, a friend is eavesdropping on the conversation with voice detection software to determine if they are lying. The person on the date has an ear piece so the friend can tell them when the people are telling the truth or lying.
In true MTV style, I am amazed at the number of stupid people and outright morons there are out there. In all fairness, stupid people and morons might be the only ones applying. I mean, I have seen the Real World. And lest you think I am being unfair, here are choice moments from the episodes I saw:
Girl:Do you think the Bush Twins should strip to pay off the national war debt? (This is not the stupid part)
Guy:Who?
Girl:Um…the Bush Twins…President Bush’s daughters?
Guy:Oh…I didn’t know he had twins. (Note…the guy was from freaking TEXAS)
2 female competitors walk up to each other…one blonde, one brunette.
Brunette:You don’t have to be blonde to be stupid. I am brunette and I am stupid!
Um…okay. Anyways, like another MTV Show (Parental Control) I saw a few months ago? Invariably, the person on the date will choose the worst of the options. Example…remember stupid guy from Texas? He was asked about kids…didn’t like em. He was asked if he thought civil rights were important-he didn’t care about them). Also lied and said he was “ready for a relationship.” The girl loved kids. She thought civil rights were important. She was supposedly looking for a potential honey. She chose…stupid guy from TX.
There is definitely a factor of “point and laugh” to the show…no matter how deep they want to come off, the people on the show always come off as severely shallow…well…on the ones I saw. I mean, the most common response given to “why do you think you will win” is “Cuz I’m hawt!!!” But really, I just wanted to use the “Why You Gotta Waste My Flavor Like That” line as a subject tag. That’s golden.
